Indore: Truckers and transporters in Indore, a major commercial hub in Madhya Pradesh, believe that the introduction of a technologically advanced vehicle monitoring system at checkpoints will create a transparent framework and improve logistics flow. It is estimated that around 4,000 commercial vehicles leave Indore daily, a number that increases during festive periods.
However, the efforts of the government to replace check posts with checkpoints and reduce their number to support the movement of vehicles in the state are being hampered by the lack of an effective monitoring system. CL Mukati, the president of the Indore Truck Operators and Transport Association, emphasizes the need for a technology-driven solution to monitor vehicle movement at checkpoints, thus preventing disruptions and potential extortion.
The Indore Truck Operators and Transport Association, along with other transporters and truckers, have written to Minister of Transport, Rao Uday Pratap Singh, urging the implementation of a technology-based monitoring system for transparent and efficient movement of commercial vehicles in the state. Additionally, the All India Motor Transport Congress has also advocated for expediting the adoption of the Gujarat model in Madhya Pradesh.
Truckers have also requested the state transport department to establish a helpline and an official app for transporters to report issues and complaints. On July 1, the Madhya Pradesh government announced the removal of all checkposts on interstate borders, a move welcomed by transporters who have long campaigned for the elimination of check posts to facilitate smoother transport operations and tackle alleged corruption.
